Das verstand ich als Aufforderung, "Forth" hier vorzustellen.
"Pack schlägt sich, Pack verträgt sich." So beschreibt ein landläufiges Sprichwort ein Phänomen, welches man in einem anderen Zusammenhang vielleicht als "Hassliebe" bezeichnen würde.
Nach "A Northern Soul" hatten sich die Bandmitglieder von The Verve schon einmal zerstritten, Nick McCabe stieg aus. Im Rahmen der Wiedervereinigung entlud sich dann die Spannung in Form von "Urban Hymns". Nach ca. einem Jahr ging die Band wieder auseinander.
"Urban Hymns" ist ein Album, welches ich mir seit 1997 immer wieder gerne anhöre (meist überspringe ich allerdings "Bittersweet Symphony"). Ich weiß gar nicht, ob ich mich irgendwann mal ein weiteres The Verve-Album gewünscht habe. Auf jeden Fall hatte ich mich damit abgefunden, dass die Band The Verve ihren Höhepunkt hinter sich hatte und die Auflösung der Band zu einem guten Zeitpunkt erfolgt war, schien es doch unmöglich, ein Album wie "Urban Hymns" zu wiederholen oder gar zu toppen. Doch nun haben sich die Jungs wieder zusammengerauft und das neue Album "Forth" steht in den Startlöchern.
Ich freue mich auf "Forth", obwohl ich anscheinend nicht zur primären Zielgruppe gehöre:
The release of The Verve’s comeback album, on the other hand, has been deliberately scheduled to coincide with the start of the football season. According to a Parlophone marketing wonk quoted in Music Week, the timing is all part of their campaign to target “the 25- to 44-year-old male-biased market with a strong Northern regionality.”
Aktuell (und nur für ein paar Tage) gibt es das Album auf Myspace als Stream. Es erscheint weniger homogen als die Vorgänger, bietet dafür aber einen Querschnitt dessen, was man aus dem The Verve / Richard Ashcroft / Nick McCabe-Umfeld erwarten kann: Hymnische Balladen, Nick McCabes markante Gitarren und (leider wenige) Einwürfe psychodelischer Jam-Sessions. "Noise Epic" ist mein aktueller Favorit. "Forth" wird "Urban Hymns" in meiner Playlist wohl nicht ersetzen, vielleicht aber ergänzen. Auch NME.CO.UK begrüßt die Wiederkehr:
‘Forth’ is greater than either a tentative first step or a mechanical consolidation by a band on the gravy train. It may not be as smooth a mix as the band’s classic album ‘A Northern Soul’, yet the mix of Ashcroft’s balladeering and The Verve’s more experimental instincts compares well with ‘Urban Hymns’, while ‘Sit And Wonder’ alone justifies a second reunion. But ‘Forth’ is also so much more. This album is probably the most solid foundation this quartet have had in 15 years, and it would be a disaster if it wasn’t a springboard for several more. Farewells might be sudden with The Verve, but we don’t want to hear the next goodbye for at least… well, is five years asking too much?
Das Album gibt es als CD, CD/DVD, Doppel-LP und als Deluxe-Edition. Letztere kostet 40 Pfund, allerdings kommen fast 20 Pfund für den Versand nach Deutschland hinzu.
